VTTI celebrates 10 years in Cyprus
A vital part of our network is VTTI Cyprus (also known as VTTV), strategically positioned in the Eastern Mediterranean as one of the first and largest energy storage and distribution terminals in the region.
This week, the terminal is celebrating 10 years of operations together with its customers, partners, and authorities. From the time it was built and until now, it has been the largest foreign direct investment for the energy sector in the country.
“As we move forward, we remain committed to sustainable energy solutions that not only support the local market but also across the Mediterranean and surrounding regions. By adhering to stringent environmental practices, including our investment in renewable energy initiatives, we aim to lead by example in responsible and sustainable energy management,” – says Thanos Patrikis, General Manager of VTTI in Cyprus and Vice President of the Mediterranean region for VTTI.
Safe and reliable energy storage in the Eastern Mediterranean
Situated in the Vasiliko area of Cyprus, this terminal is much more than a storage site – it’s an important link in the regional energy supply chain. With deep-water access and seamless road tanker loading facilities, the terminal caters to a variety of customers, using various modes of transport, including road, marine, and pipeline. This connectivity allows us to offer customers efficient turnaround times, access to a dedicated private jetty offering a reliable jetty service, ensuring that customers can take full advantage of market opportunities in a global energy landscape.
The VTTI advantage
The terminal’s infrastructure includes 28 high-capacity tanks that provide 545,000 cubic meters of clean petroleum products and biofuels storage. It also features a segregated Jet A-1 system and dedicated ethanol storage, along with state-of-the-art safety protocols and environmental protections. This unique setup positions VTTI in Cyprus as a premier hub for energy storage in the Eastern Mediterranean.
Through our customer-centric approach, we offer numerous benefits to our customers and partners. Our marine jetty is equipped to also accommodate Ship-to-Ship (STS) services and re-Bill of Lading (re-BoL) operations, making our terminal a versatile center for petroleum products throughput, and distribution. Our terminal further provides robust services, positioning it as a key hub for gasoline blending, specialized additivities, and an expanding range of activities under our enhanced Customs Licenses.
Beyond providing a critical infrastructure service, we prioritize our compliance with the latest safety, health, and environmental regulations, with built-in sustainable practices that support the environmental preservation of the region.
“As a part of Strategy 2028, VTTI is further developing its terminal business while embracing new developments that will support a sustainable, cleaner, greener future. For example, at our terminal in Cyprus we are researching areas for growth in the biofuels, transitional and renewable energy area, we are open to investing and partnering in sustainability and new energy projects. We recognize the importance of our role in meeting today’s energy demands and adapting to the infrastructure requirements that will help the world transition to a low-carbon economy, ” – says Guy Moeyens, CEO of VTTI.
