Construction Manager

As a construction manager you will support projects around the world with Rotterdam as your base. Travelling is there for part of the job. You report to the designated project manager for your project, and the global site project manager, and you are responsible for the management of the construction activities in the project you are deployed to. Your first assignment will be at our terminal in Malysia on a 2 month on, 2 weeks off rotation base.

What are your responsibilities?

  • As construction manager you report to the designated project manager and you are responsible for the management of the multidisciplinary construction activities (civil, structural, mechanical, piping, electrical, instrumentation, automation and control) of projects up to 150 mln USD.
  • Provide critical construction input during FEED, detailed engineering, model and constructability reviews; define construction execution plan as part of the project execution plan.
  • Assure that Contractors and sub-Contractor activities comply with the HSE, Project Execution, Quality plans and other contractual obligations.
  • Manage, supervise, guide and motivate the Company’s construction supervisors and ensure safe and timely completion of the project within the required safety and quality standards.
  • Strong focus on the HSE performance of Contractors and sub – Contractors in line with the safety performance KPIs and in coordination with the HSE manager.
  • Review contractor interim payment certificates and progress reports (engineering, procurement, construction) and verify correctness and efficiency against plans and schedules; provide your input to contractor on corrective measures to maintain progress as per project schedule.
  • Proactively assure that works are adequately documented and in compliance with the project procedures / specifications and regulatory framework for smooth execution of pre-commissioning and commissioning activities, any verification by Authorities and final handover to internal client at mechanical completion.
  • Prepare Weekly and Monthly reports to Company’s management and Project Steering Committee.

What we’re looking for

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in construction management, engineering or related field;
  • Minimum 8 years of multidisciplinary construction management experience in medium to major oil and gas, industrial, energy projects;
  • Flexible in (temporary) relocating to project locations across our network. Initial assignment is set at our Terminal in Malaysia, ATB;
  • Ability to interact on high level in commercial conversation between VTTI, its Clients and Contractors; and with other project management disciplines, such as HSE, engineering, project controls, cost estimating, permitting;
  • Meet deadlines by quickly adapting to changing needs and requirements. Capable of handling stressful situations.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration and analytical skills;
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask;
  • Proficient in written and spoken English.
