VTTI participates in Green Hydrogen trade mission to Chile

A VTTI delegation participated in a successful Green Hydrogen trade mission to Chile last week.  The trade mission offered an insight into Chile’s national and international strategy and actions for green hydrogen. The week-long trade mission was organized by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO), in collaboration with the Chilean Ministry of Energy and ProChile, the Chilean Foreign Ministry’s export support office.

Chile is a country with enormous potential to produce green hydrogen due to its capacity to produce large amounts of renewable energy from sources such as wind and solar. Hydrogen offers Chile an opportunity to decarbonize its industry, for instance by using it as a reducing agent to produce green copper as well as a fuel for heavy duty transport. Chile could also export excess renewable energy produced from hydrogen and its derivatives, such as green ammonia, to places where there is a demand for it, such as Europe.  As part of its diversification strategy, VTTI is developing and implementing projects in the hydrogen export and import value chains.
